Equality and Diversity

Mission Statement

We understand that inclusion and diversity are key to ensuring the best possible experience for our clients and our employees. We are dedicated to achieving real change and challenging traditional attitudes. We are not interested in just paying lip service.

To help us achieve these goals, our diversity and inclusion strategy will initially focus on three principle areas:

MBM Commercial prides itself on being a bit different from other law firms. Our clients are trailblazers, innovators, and visionaries, solving the big issues of our world. They are thoroughly modern - and we need to be the same. But we don’t know how exceptional we can be until everyone can be considered. Diversity is a strategic imperative that the legal profession ignores at its peril. We want to ensure that everyone has access to become a member of the legal profession.

That’s why we are proud to continue with the WE:Change programme at MBM Commercial this summer.

This unique two-week work experience programme will provide one-to-one support and work-experience where candidates will have the opportunity to meet each other and other members of the firm. It will provide unique insight into a firm like ours, hopefully inspiring students to enter into the profession.

The programme is aimed at widening participation students enrolled at Edinburgh University and Napier University who are keen to pursue a career in the law. Successful candidates will be able to work in a law office, handling business and commercial law matters. Candidates who successfully complete their term will be eligible for consideration in a mentorship programme, where they will be paired with an experienced solicitor or other legal professional for an agreed period.

The programme will run from June through August 2024.

At MBM, many of our clients are driving the engine for our futures to become more sustainable and cleaner. As lawyers, we play a huge role in society to make changes and improve the world. We are therefore committing ourselves to becoming more cognisant of our environmental impact and strive to become a net-zero firm. Becoming net-zero recognizes that although there may be some waste in connection with our practices, we can offset it with simple, sustainable actions.


To adopt practical, achievable, and science-based measures to help us reduce the environmental impact that we have on the planet.

At MBM, many of our clients are driving the engine for our futures to live in a more sustainable and cleaner environment. As lawyers, we play a huge role in society to make changes and improve the world and part of that includes implementing actions within our firm to become net zero by 2030.

Becoming net zero recognizes that although there may be some waste in connection with our practices, we can offset it with simple, sustainable actions.

We adopt science-based targets to both reduce and mitigate our harmful output in order to become net zero.

We adopt practical measures and implement new policies to help us reduce the environmental impact that we have on the planet. This includes educating our staff and partners about sustainable practices that we continue to implement across our offices.

We encourage and empower staff and partners to become net zero champions outside of the office as well, by recycling waste, using public transportation to and from work (and elsewhere) and advising them on how to reduce their own carbon footprint in the home.

Finally, we look outside ourselves, to our client and professional networks to encourage others to engage in sustainable practices.
